Peter: I went to Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. How do we become attractive and bring more companies here and bring more empty nesters and college graduates and make this a really attractive place to live. Ive been really lucky. We were in this really awesome mode of, oh, this is a startup, like this is a startup. John: I dont want to skip over that. I dont know if thats a word, but I would attach myself. Peter: We have two kids. And I didn't need to get paid. Peter: did active, to get in. We had a, if you remember, we had a COVID extended season. Peter: heres the market. So, it's a little bit kind of nuts and delusional to go through thinking like you can kind of accomplish or solve or get anything done, but it's kind of the way I've kind of attacked life in a big way. Peter: We didnt finish the championship till mid-July, which meant like we didnt have long to get the rings included. Talk about that relationship that you have with the players. Again, under the umbrella of collecting people and really having experience in a big way. Youre unbelievably inspirational. A decades-long Manhattan pickup basketball game is on hold because of the pandemic, creating an emotional void for its rotating cast of actors, executives and regular joes. As you said, we all have to pay, keep the lights on buy groceries, but you cant put a value on that kind of memento that youve given to those 850 people, as opposed to a monetary bonus, you cant, theres no, its invaluable that kind of experience. And I know you had a background in marketing and you worked with the Knicks at certain points in your career. He ends up being a generational player like you couldnt, if you were writing a Disney movie, which they have now written and now produced, it would be the fodder for a Disney. How can we do fun special things, what matters to people? Everythings compounded we happen to have picked Giannis in a draft, like in, as the 16th pick. Hes very straightforward. I've known Jon for, I don't know, 13, 14 years, and to see what he's done with the team as the general manager has been really impressive. The one thing that's been impressive for me, being a part of the family, is seeing how you all embrace the city. You sound super excited about the future. He's with us today. And obviously, you have dealt with a little bit of this with Sterling Brown a couple years ago, so you guys happened to prepare for this a little bit. That's what and that's ongoing. Peter: Well, I think its leadership 101, youve got to grasp where you are number one, and this was a very distressed brand company position. They all had the space, they're at Disney, they have all the amenities. The future for the Bucks, championship, championship, championship, and obviously getting fans back at the games. If Im 25 and struggling to get up and down the court because I was out with my friends, and these guys who are running companies are showing up and playing ball, then I have no excuse. John: Whos raising their hand saying Dad, were all in with you. How does this work? "Very simply, we went into the market and said, 'We're going to build this market. Anybody who wants to joust with me or do anything, I was like, "Well, just tell me where you're against the equality. Peter: Married. By the way, I've got access to the Team President, the GM, everybody is all around just to resource and help. Whether it was in sports or somewhere else Id probably look to lead an opportunity for a turnaround or a startup. It was July. How did that come together? Michael Red: The facilities, everything that you guys have done so far is remarkable. I also listen, I thought, and my parents thought both my brother and I were as you can imagine before ADD was actually diagnosed, Peter: for kids our age and stuff, because its still be on impulsive, relentless, like, [inaudible]. Peter Feigin: So, we saw this as the opportunity of, "Oh my goodness. And I think it was like a checkpoint for us certainly, but for the whole country on like, "Boy, this is one of those inflection points that we've got to make matter in a big way." We were literally refining, cared about all the cookies and stories in it and stuff. But the honesty of saying you dont know all the answers and figuring out what the solutions are is probably like pretty powerful in the way things work. Because I don't think we're really worried about kind of like we would think half a million people are going to die, that what would happen to hospitals and ICUs and things like that. financial capital with human capital to end up with the right result, how is that math done in Peter Feigins head? Peter Feigin: And then I think, the bigger picture is we really have to accelerate becoming the world's team. Peter: Yeah, I think number one is to explain kind of a small market. You and I go back since you came back to the Bucks or since you came to the Bucks and you guys have been incredible to me over the years since you've been in a position in Milwaukee and really grateful of our friendship over the years and how the organization has welcomed me back to the organization. It just kind of really trying. Feigin's twin brother emphasized his brother's role in reshaping downtown. Michael Red: After knowing you for the last six years, personally, two qualities stand out: Extremely funny and extremely generous. John: You grew up on the Upper East Side, you are a native New Yorker, your brothers still back there. Just try to be quiet. How do you create a hermetically sealed bubble for people to compete in on a campus and all the thousands of touch points, people, logistics and everything? We were either 29th or 30th in a league of 30 teams, we were in a 25-year-old arena, that part of this was how do we get a new arena built? Post-acquisition were in an interesting time in life where my dad had been ill for a while and there was no way I was going to move to Milwaukee or take, even have the prospect of taking a job because I wanted to stay in New York and be with my father. One Thursday night he gave me a call and said, Do you think you can go to Milwaukee and talk to Senator Herb Call. You were very part of that whole Marquis Jet, NetJet thing too, right? But I'm sure [inaudible 00:30:10] the players in that process. Peter: professionalized on a revenue basis, so yeah. It's like how it affected the players because that almost helped accelerate the importance of it. And then kind of understanding that he knew I was kind of keen on the operation side and understood a team and an organization's P&L for a good way. As commissioner of one of New York Citys longstanding pickup basketball games, Dan Feigin always knew where he would be every Saturday morning: inside the subterranean gymnasium at Trevor Day School in Manhattan, where he has worked for nearly three decades as a teacher, coach and administrator. Youre physically building an arena, a district, a template for success. Peter: Wow. John: That is a big deal. In many ways, you were doing a startup when you came to Milwaukee with your partners. And this is how cities evolve. That sounds like a little piece, but that's a big piece in the world. And I think he's going to sell the team. In a perfect world, how do we mesh them together to have one and one equal three? And I really do think like so powerful and so great, because it really accelerated the chipping away of this systematic racism, if nothing else, brought it to the forefront and the top of discussion in mind. When you think about it, what else would you be doing? Michael Red: Peter, Peter Feigin. And if nothing else, like we kind of, I always answer everything pretty simply. Im like, we actually, might have a chance to get this done and to make a long story short, and unfortunately my twin brother thinks like I owe him a commission, for. You buy the Bucks, you help with that whole negotiation and you were living in New York, so you were married already and you decided.
